Apology

Apologies for the time its taken to get these done. At the 7mm NGA exhibition I really thought I was on the verge of having them ready to ship.

Issues that arose with the wheels put paid to that along with other demands on my time and trivia like the packing company withdrawing the box size the custom packing was designed for. I still haven’t solved that one hence the orgy of bubble wrap hiding your wagons.

Quick Notes

When you look at your models the first reaction is likely to be “why’s he left all these wires long?”

Simple really. You are going to need to strip it down to paint it. I recommend you do this as soon as you can, even if its only a spray of primer for starters. 3D printer resins are light sensitive and over time they can become brittle. A coat of paint stops that process.

When you reassemble it I suggest: –

  • Trimming the wires holding the wheels in to just a smidge longer than the axle boxes and then putting a little kink in the wire to stop it falling out. Alternatives are wire just on each box and/or a blob of glue instead of the kink
  • The door hinge can be glued in the body side and trimmed flush. The door waggles on the wire
  • The 2mm body pivot is quite a tight fit so just painting the outer ends in their trunnion will probably be a sufficient fix.
  • The door flap wire (couldn’t think of a better name) once installed can have a little kink and a trim to retain it. There is now a little fret of printed washers included in new kits. You need 2 but 8 are provided because they’ll be a favoured food of the carpet monster. Once glued in as in the picture below the wires can be trimmed.

Safety Note

Don’ try to propel 18 cars in one rake as they behave in a prototypical fashion and end up all over the place. Guess how I know.
