Ixion Models – Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0 – Sound Install Kit
Modular Sound & Keep Alive!
This is a very easy to install DCC sound kit and it also addresses a slight shortcoming in the original (Light Green/Red/Black) release of thes locos. In the early version the manufacturers PCB sort of flapped about in the body unsupports. The later Forest Green version introduced an extra moulding to support their PCB which gave me the idea for making a modular DCC sound install.
The moulding makes an ideal mount to install sound as a module keeping any soldering away from the loco so I have reporduced this as a 3D print.
On the left is the Keep Alive Unit, underneath is a Sugar Cube Speaker whilst on the right is a ZIMO MX645 decoder with our custom Hudswell Clarke sound project loaded. The Ixion pcb is on top. All assembly is done with double sided sticky pads and no soldering by the user.
Just unplug the Ixion PCB, stick it on top of the print with the double sided sticky pads making sure the wires tuck in. Plug the deocder in and then plug the module in to the loco with the print over the sticking up screw mount.
Test Run: check the loco goes the right way before putting the body on. If it goes the wrong way plug the DCC decoder plug in turned though 180. (some of the locos were wired wrong for DCC convention)
The Sound Project
This has been mastered for us by Paul Chetter and features the best of ZIMO’s features and Real Drive control giving your loco the characteristics of the real thing. You may have to learn to drive again but when you do you’ll want all your loco’s like this

There are three different whistle types, a high pitched shrill whistl (most popular), a chime whistle and a Hooter. Select your choice from the drop down list
