Ixion Models – Fowler Diesel-Plain Green. DCC & Sound Fitted
Released in 2013 as the second loco produced by Ixion Models the Fowler Diesel sold out long ago. A clear out here at EDM Models revealed a mystery brown box with no label on which I had always assumed was something else. Opened it revelead a DCC sound fitted plain green Fowler.
History of the DCC sound installation
Back in 2013 having done sound for the first Ixion loco, the Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0, we set about working with Ixion to develop sound for the Fowler. Recordings were made of Woodbine at the Swindon and Cricklade Railway as the original closest working relative. The originals were started by a donkey engine that created air pressure to air start the main engine. Woodbine is electric start but a suitable similar donkey engine to the original was located and recorded. Paul Chetter as usual worked his magic to create a sensational sound project which with the addition of significant keep alive capability results in a superb small shunting locomotive. A later update brought “real drive” features to put you in the cab.
The install is a complicated one as there isn’t really enough room in the body resulting in a complete rewire and, after some modification, much of the install being in the chassis
There are four sound options available
- Donkey engine start & Klaxon
- Donkey engine start & Horns
- Electric engine start & Klaxon
- Electric engine start & Horns
The model currently has the first installed and will be supplied like that unless you ask for one of the other options at the time of purchase.
The Donkeare delighted to have been appointed as the exclusive supplier of DCC and DCC/sound equipped loco’s by Minerva Model Railways. Building on our success at creating a sound project for the Ixion Fowler we will be aiming to supply something a bit special in the Minerva Model Railways Peckett E class loco
Theb DCC install is based around a ZIMO MX645 decoder which gives superb control and sound options.
Out of mystery brown boxes this is almost certainly the last one we’ll be able to supply. If you have a Fowler you would like sound in we are happy to quote for fitting it for you
